Story behind Lohri

According to one story, it is said that the groom was a bandit named Bhatti, who used to help the poor people by looting. She helped Sundari and Mundari two orphaned sisters in difficult times. Whom his uncle handed over to the zamindars. The groom rescued them from the clutches of the zamindars and got them married on the night of Lohri by burning fire on the same night and bid farewell to them by putting sugar in their bag. It is believed that due to this event, people celebrate the festival of Lohri. The groom Bhatti is still remembered for singing the famous folk song 'Sundar-mundiraye'.


Where did the word Lohri come from?

Many believe that the word Lohri originated from ई.ओ. लोई (संत कबीर की पत्नी), but many believe it to have originated from Tilodi, which has since become Lohri. At the same time, some people believe that the term originated from 'Loh', which used to make chapati.
